I shot this picture in a garden in my backyard when I was living in Connecticut. The red flowers, called Bee Balm, are great for attracting the Ruby Throated Hummingbirds. They are Connecticut's only hummingbird species, and their scientific name is Archilochus colubris. Often there were several of these little birds in the garden at a time. The sound of their rapidly beating wings is more of a buzz than a hum.
You might be asking yourself why they are called ruby throated. The males have bright red plumage on their throats, but this is a female.
